How do you use art to create art? How do you collaborate from afar? Those are the challenges of Lesley University's cREATe on the 8. On the 8th of each month, everyone in the expressive arts community is encouraged to take eight minutes out of their days to create an artistic response to a common theme. This month's theme was Janelle Monae's song, "Hell You Talmbout," which has become a unifying chant for the Black Lives Matter movement.
I decided to respond in poetry, which you can read below.
Their Voices Carry
Names shouted
a gust of wind
on glowing embers
feeding the vigil flames.
Names not forgotten
though they be but ashes.
Ashes carried by the wind
small but not invisible.
Their voices
carried to the masses
as they cry.
